It was stated at a Bayshore meeting in 2001 by a representative of the Marine Science Center, "It is not a matter of if a tsunami will occur, but rather when it will occur."

That same person also drew this picture: When a sizable tsunami hits Bayshore it will sweep across the spit on the way into the bay and back across it on the way out. There will be catastrophic damage to the remainder of the development as well. Click here to see the official Oregon Dept. of Geology and Minerals Inundation Map.

With these things in mind ....... below are some pieces of information, places to find more information, and suggestions about how to prepare for a tsunami.

If you are hearing ocean sounds ...... they are being generated by the synthesizer your computer uses. If you want them off you can use the player controls just below.

The warning just above is a .jpg that you can print for yourself and/or your renters. To save it to your computer use your mouse ..... put the cursor on the text, mouse down (while depressing the control key on some computers), drag to the "save as" (determine where to save), mouse up.

Even easier and for clearer print click here for a .pdf file.

Here are several links with tsunami information. They in turn have more links for tsunami information.

The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Weather Radio Network can give you the earliest official warning of a tsunami. The earliest warning you may actually have is when you feel the earthquake that triggers a locally generated tsunami.

What is the NOAA Weather Radio Network? click here for an answer

Do you have an NOAA Weather radio? If not it is something you might consider. The weather radios contain a built in alarm system that will activate your radio any time there is an official NOAA alert issued. Locally Radio Shack has them, but here are a few other sources.
