An imaginary substance from Alchemy,
which would turn base metals into gold,
and increase longevity.
This is the basis for all powers attributed to gemstones.
THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE IS
BELIEF.
It is not exactly without validity.
It is the basis for all
faith healing.
Atlantis was supposedly destroyed by the misuse of a crystal
technology.
I've heard rumors of psychics "reading"
thought forms attached to crystals.
Maybe not so far fetched when you consider the materials in a
computer chip.
Of course, giving magical properties to a beautiful gem,
made it a lot easier to sell,
a different type of magic called merchandising.
