Heceta Head Lighthouse

Interpretive Center - Bed & Breakfast

Fun stuff to do!

The night time experience at the lighthouse is one you will NEVER forget. It is an experience that is so incredible we cannot begin to describe it with words. You won't be able to either.

Take a guided tour the inside of the lighthouse. Learn how the light worked then and how it works now.

Sunset at Heceta Head LighthouseWatch the sunset on our beach.

Bird watching: We have two "apartment house" islands (left) where all sorts of birds live, from the Common Mure to the Puffins and Pelicans.

Whale watching: Spectacular from the front porch of the Keeper's house. Whales sometimes stop by at high tide and use the shallow rocks to scratch the barnacles off their sides. Up by the light house is some of the best whale watching one can do from dry land.

Beach combing: The beach here is shallow so there are lots of surprises with each ebb and flow of the tide. Many glass balls have been found, sea shells and other treasures from the Pacific. At right is a picture of the Cape Creek Bridge and the beach as seen from our front porch. Click on the picture to see it closer.

Walk among the tide pools: A 5 minute walk from the Keeper's house. Some say they are among the most pristine on the Oregon coast.

Live some history: Learn how the lightkeepers lived in the early days. The picture (left) is from the early 1900's.

Storm Watching: Regulars to the Oregon coast say: "When the weather is nice it is nice, but when it is bad it is GREAT!"  From our vantage point we can see storms miles away and experience some incredible surf and winds while you relax around a fire in the parlor fireplace.  The New York Times said it is one of the best places on this coast to watch a storm.

Sea Lion Caves: World famous, they are just minutes away. Often times the sea lions make a visit to us. They like to play in the waters in front of the house.

Visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the first home of "Keiko" after becoming the famous movie star  killer whale from the movie "Free Willy." Willy is gone but not forgotten.  There are lots and lots of neat things to see at the aquarium.  Just 45 minutes away in Newport.  The newly remodeled Hatfield aquatic center is also now open.

Dining out: All the way from the famous "Mo's" fish and chips to the renowned dining experience of the four star "La Serre" there is no end to the variety of restaurants.

Crabbing and clam digging. Dungeness crab are the finest crab meats in the world.

Fishing: There are 17 fresh water lakes and many beautiful streams such as our own "Cape Creek."

Visit the magnificent Cape Perpetua only 10 minutes away.

The Oregon Dunes are spectacular, take a dune buggy ride, rent one and get big thrills or it is fun to just go out to the South Jetty Dunes parks and watch as others take their thrills and spills.

Shopping: In Florence "Old Town" or in the quaint village of "Yachats." There are many unusual specialty shops from hats to fine domestic and imported clothing. From kitchen stores to fine art galleries.

Horseback riding: National Forest horse trails that go from the beach to the mountains are with in minutes away. Horses are available from "C & M" stables near the trails.

Hiking: Trails with in minutes. Into the Siuslaw National Forest. Hiking up Cape creek and under the Historic and beautiful Cape Creek Bridge.

Try your hand at capturing the most beautiful, unusual, or creative shot of the most photographed lighthouse in the U.S. Also one of the most beautiful bridges in Oregon, hidden from view to most travelers, is right at our front door. This picture is of the Keeper's House from under the bridge. Photo by Pat Donnelley (click to see it larger).
