Philip Nathaniel Mikesell
[4/23/03] Well, we’re two months away from Phil’s third birthday. We’re looking at another quiet-ish birthday at home, with maybe a few friends from church over. Philip’s current interests include heavy construction equipment; Nickelodeon Jr.; the 60’s TV show, The Thunderbirds; left-over Easter candy; and not taking naps. He’s learning to handle disappointment since the Nick Jr. shows he likes aren’t on 24/7, the Easter candy is running out, and most days he still has to get some “quiet time” in during the afternoon. During the past 6 months, Phil has done another California road trip (Christmas with extended family at both sets of grandparents), gone on his first sleepover, and ridden his first carousel (the photos at right are not of his first ride, although that is the same carousel). Phil enjoyed Thanksgiving with the Grandparents Mikesell, Aunt Sarah and Auntie Jenny; Grandparents Mikesell again in March. He’s looking forward to seeing Grandparents Marshall in May. Phil had his first Easter Egg hunt last Sunday. Philip can count to 13 and say large chunks of the alphabet in sequence. He knows his colors and many shapes (rectangles yes, dodecahedrons no). He can sing Jesus Loves Me, The Itsy-Bitsy Spider, and most of the VeggieTales and 1-2-3 Penguins theme songs. Phil’s vocabulary continues to grow and he’s putting together ever-longer sentences. He can name all the cast of The Thunderbirds and identify which International Rescue vehicle they usually operate (including Lady Penelope and Parker in FAB-1). He is intrigued by pirates (from Capt. Hook to the VeggieTales’ Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything) and frequently refers to people as “Captain” (this is not a TSA thing; it’s a pirate thing, though some may fail to appreciate the difference…arrrrgh). Phil continues to be a surprisingly polite boy. He doesn’t always remember his “pleases,” but does pretty good with “thank you” and “bless you” when you sneeze. He can tell the TV remote from the DVD remote and will bring them when asked (so he’s pretty useful to have around). Click on thumbnails (at right) to view larger photo.
