Your first assignment: definitions
Due: Thursday April 4th through Saturday April 6th
Your first assignment is to explore some possible definitions of what is meant by the term "religion."
1. You should look around for a definition (or two) of "religion" that seems to you to be a good one. I suppose you could go to dictionaries if you like, but hopefully youll also find other sources for definitions that are a little more reflective and well-thought-out than just dictionaries or encyclopedias. A library or bookstore may be a good place to start, and so would the web. I suppose asking people wouldn't be a bad idea either. We may need all the help we can get.
2. Post your definition(s) into the classroom folder for week one (click on the red schoolhouse icon and then open the week one folder; from there open a new message, write your message, then post it).
3. Tell us what you like and dislike about the definition(s) youve found.
4. Respond to any of the postings from other people you find interesting.
This conversation needs to be completed by Saturday evening, but that means you will need to start posting your first definitions on Thursday so that people will have time to think about them and respond.
It will be interesting to see how successful well be in finding an adequate definition of "religion."
