Assignment for Huston Smith’s
The World’s Religions

Our first two weeks this quarter have been a little light on the assigned reading, but starting this week, and in future weeks (as you can see if you peek ahead on the assignments page), there will be a bit more assigned reading and writing. The readings are of the very highest quality, though, both in content and form. I hope you'll find yourself enjoying and being enriched by them.

The goal to set yourself this week would be to complete the assigned reading by Saturday (or sooner), if at all possible, so that you can begin posting your SQs and DQs by then. That way there will be sufficient time for your discussion of these matters to develop and ripen. If people were to just post their answers to the SQs and DQs on the last day or so of the week (Tue or Wed), then there would be no time left to discuss anything. And your full participation in these discussions is one of the absolutely essential elements in this course.

I think you'll find the material this week to be very interesting.

Due: discussion begins anytime after Thur morning Apr 18 & must be completed by Wed Apr 24, 6pm

assigned readings:

So this means that you’ll be reading the Forward and Preface plus six chapters (five of them we'll all be reading in common, one will be of your own choosing).

You may choose to read additional chapters too, of course, for interest and maybe a little extra credit, but the above chapters are what is required

assigned writing:

SQs for The World's Religions are to be posted and discussed in the SQs folder for World's Religions (under the folder labeled "PR SQs")

DQs for The World's Religions are to be posted and discussed in the classroom folder for week three.

Research Projects:

It's time to start thinking about what your research project topic will be so you can get it OKed within the next week or so. Click here for details.

Your first self evaluation:

Your first midterm Self Evaluation is due this coming Tuesday evening. Click here to download the Self Evaluation Form. See my message in the classroom for more details.
